Polls across the board reveal a strong interest in third-party candidates and independents. The data shows that a substantial number of American voters are ready to give these candidates a chance to speak.
- A FOX poll from July 2025 states that 53% of registered voters say it’s a good idea to have a third major political party.
- The same FOX poll revealed that 61% agree third parties are needed because the two parties aren’t addressing voter concerns.
- A 2024 Gallup poll shows that 58% of U.S. adults say a third major party is needed because the two major parties do a “poor job” of representing people.
The numbers are in, and they show that registered voters, across party lines, are sharing common ground on this issue, which should have the two parties quaking in their boots. To preserve their historical grip on power, they continue to sell us the myth that voting for one of these alternative candidates is a vote wasted. As long as we give in and allow that myth to perpetuate, it will be “business as usual,” which is just how they like it.
So how can we break this pattern?
Meta-Movement Solutions
- Identify the Patterns – Before you can take action, you have to know what to target. The Democrats and Republicans think that there are only so many pieces of the pie to go around, so they do all they can to sideline third-party and independent voices. The media conspires to a large extent by underreporting these types of candidates or by doubling down on the “wasted vote myth.” Another trope to watch for is the “spoiler myth,” which implies that any vote that goes to an alternative candidate ruins the chances of a more established one. There are also laws on the books that create insurmountable hurdles for non-mainstream candidates, restricting ballot access nationwide.
- Find the Change-Makers – Do some Googling and familiarize yourself with the organizations leading the charge for systemic change in our elections (https://fairvote.org/ and https://freeandequal.org/ are good places to start). The work they are doing is crucial, but these disparate groups lack the unifying glue that would consolidate their efforts and get their message out. That’s what the Meta-Movement is all about!
- Why it Works – Movements thrive when they can articulate a shared goal. A unified voice helps cut through the noise, prevents the message from being diluted, and provides the public, media, and policymakers with a clear and concise narrative to understand and focus on. Movements take time and you have to have the heart to stick it out. Unified messaging motivates people to stay engaged and ensures that movements have legitimacy and longevity.
- What You Can Do Today – Let’s start with that computer or smartphone you have in front of you. Share the knowledge you’ve gained with friends and family members, especially those who have second thoughts about third-party and independent candidates. If a candidate emerges who genuinely speaks to you, share your enthusiasm with the world. You’d be surprised how far a little digital activism can go.
New Perspectives Through Digital Politics (DP)
- See in DP – In today’s hyper-partisan, dog-eat-dog political landscape, we need to get to the core of changing the narrative from Left vs Right to People vs Power. As long as we are manipulated by politicians and media pundits to hate and distrust everything about the “other side”, nothing can arise from this. We have to reprogram and get to the thing the Establishment fears the most: the fact that people share more common ground across party lines than we are led to believe. Realizing this is the first step.
- Build the Blueprint for Bigger Hope – Access to power is guarded by a billionaire class of donors who have managed to get what they want by writing the checks politicians need to get elected. They are protected by laws that enable them to financially rig the game for their own ends, while the average citizen goes unheeded. This persistent gatekeeping must be undone with a blueprint to upgrade democracy. Learn more about that here.
- What You Can Do – FiNC is building a bridge between disaffected citizens and pro-democracy organizations looking for their audience. You can do your part by tuning in the people in your network to what Digital Politics actually is. Why stop there? You can also reach out to like-minded organizations and independent journalists and make them aware of the DP message.
Setting the Movement into Motion Through Digital Democracy (DD)
- Showcase the full range of candidates without prejudice
- Politician Report Cards – Comprehensive and informative overviews of the candidate’s behavior, such as voting records, how often they keep their campaign promises, conflicts of interest, and their overall ranking as stewards of democratic norms and ethics.
- Digital Primaries – Hosted on our platform, this is a great way for less-visible candidates from the two major parties, independents, and third-party candidates to be heard by all of you during the traditional primary season. The votes would then be consolidated behind a single candidate per race.
- The Roll Out – We intend to have some of these features up and running between the 2026 midterm elections and the next general election. The more energy we can generate behind this, along with strong citizen participation, the sooner it will launch.
- Why it Works – This model will provide the insights and data necessary to demonstrate the effectiveness of alternative voting methods that empower citizens to vote their conscience without fear, with the ultimate goal of having this implemented as a viable solution in the real world.
The End Game - Changes in Policy & Rules
Primary Objectives for Democratic Reforms
- Establish nationwide acceptance and adoption of flexible voting systems such as Ranked Choice Voting and Approval Voting.
- Mitigate or remove entirely the corrupting influence of money in politics.
- Restructure the debate rules to be more open and inclusive.
- Convince legacy media outlets with great reach from neglecting outsider voices by offering candidates equitable coverage.
Once this entrenched pattern is finally broken, we can rebuild America’s electoral system to better serve us all. By maximizing choice, we can find a new way forward to a more even playing field where money and influence take a back seat to the will of the people.
