About FiNC

We’re building a coalition to change how politics works. Forever.

Not a party. Not an app. A coalition of citizens, candidates, and communities who all figured out the same thing: the system isn’t broken, it’s rigged, and it’s working exactly as built.

3 middlemen decide which candidates you ever hear about: big money, party gatekeepers, and media manipulation. They control the money, the access, and the visibility every candidate needs to win. So good people run for office and stay invisible.

Once you see it, you see it everywhere. You can’t get a meeting, but whoever can afford one helps write the rules. You vote them out and nothing changes. Everything is a screaming fight except the things most of us already agree on. Each one looks like a one-off. They’re the same pattern, and we call them rigged patterns.

Spotting them is what the Digital Politics Lens is for. Left and right is what you believe. Up and down is who your leaders answer to. Does this leader serve power, or serve you? A progressive and a libertarian can both answer that, which is why we’re the referee and not another player.

So we’re building the infrastructure to cut out the middleman and connect people directly: citizens to the candidates who actually want to represent them, and to the movements working on what they care about.

It’s live today at hub.futureis.org, and it’s close to empty. That’s not the weak part of the pitch; growing the coalition is what fills it, and that’s the work.

FiNC isn’t a tech company. Our work is the human side: outreach, PR, social, and citizen buy-in. We’re not marketing a website. We’re campaigning for a better way to choose leaders.

We’re also built closer to a cooperative than a traditional nonprofit. Team members here are partners and co-architects, not employees.

To maintain our independence and avoid conflicts of interest, we are not accepting investors or financing that comes with strings attached. Instead, we are Crowd-Starting FiNC—building it together from the ground up.

We’re asking team members to contribute 15-20 hours per week during this phase, with compensation paid retroactively once we become fully operational.

This model only works if you see it as a short-term investment for long-term rewards. Everyone who joins is a partner, receiving an ownership stake in FiNC. Our structure is similar to a Nonprofit Cooperative, moving beyond the traditional “employee vs employer” dynamic into something more collaborative and forward-thinking.

This model filters for people who believe in the mission deeply enough to build alongside us. It’s not for everyone, and that’s okay.

Job Description

Discord Community Builder

The server is built. The channels are set up. What it needs now is someone to start talking.

That is this role. You own the Digital Politics Community: you show up, open the conversation, keep it alive, and show citizens a different way to talk about the problems everyone already feels.

Why This Role Exists

We will be straight with you about the problem we are hiring to solve:

We have brought citizens into the server before. They showed up, looked around, and went quiet within a few weeks, because nobody was there to give them a reason to come back. A well-built room with nobody talking in it is not a community.

So the rest of Outreach and Marketing is holding off on driving more citizens in until we know someone is there to catch them. Once you are in the seat, that funnel opens. You are not being handed a crowd to manage. You are being handed the room, right before the doors open.

This role sits on the Outreach Team. You will work closest with Outreach and Marketing, with direct lines into Content and The Digital Politics Podcast.

What You Own

• Start the conversations. This is the job, and everything else supports it. Daily prompts, questions, reactions to the news cycle, follow-ups on what someone said 3 days ago. You are the first voice in the room, and the one who makes sure a citizen’s first post never sits there without a reply
• Build the culture in the Digital Politics Lens. Left and Right is where people stand on issues. Up and Down is how you judge leaders: does this one serve power, or serve you? Your job is to show citizens that second question by using it, not by teaching it. Over time, the room starts asking it without you
• Make new citizens feel like builders. Greet people by name. Point them to the DP Hub. Hand them 1 small thing to do. The first active citizens are Founding Members, and they set the tone for everyone who comes after them
• Go where citizens already are. While our server is still quiet, part of your week is spent in other Discord communities: political, civic, local, issue-based. Contribute something real, be a person, and let people find their own way back to us. Slow and organic. No link-dumping, no copy-paste pitches, no ignoring another server’s rules
• Keep the space safe and organized. Set norms, hold them, and handle the rare bad actor fast. The server is already structured, so this is upkeep, not a rebuild
• Run the backend. Bots, roles, permissions, and the onboarding flow. Improve what is there when it gets in the way
• Report what you hear. You will know what citizens actually care about before anyone else in the org. That goes back to Outreach, Marketing, and the podcast

   

What This Role Is Not

This is not a moderation job under a new name. The distinction matters, because the skills that make someone great here are not the same ones that keep the peace in a room that is already full.

• Not a moderation queue. Removing spam is a small slice of the work. If enforcing rules is the part that appeals to you, this is not your role
• Not a debate club. We do not win arguments in our own house. We change the question being asked
• Not advocacy. FiNC is the referee. We name what is rigged, and we host every position on how to fix it. We never tell citizens what to believe or who to vote for. If you want a space to push your own politics, this will frustrate you
• Not a 24/7 job. Consistency beats presence. Showing up every day for a focused stretch does more than camping in the server all weekend and then disappearing
• Not solo. Other team members will help with coverage and content, and Outreach will feed you people. But you own the space, which means if it goes quiet, it is yours to fix

What Makes Someone Good At This

• You start conversations easily. In a group chat, you are the one who says the first thing
• Discord fluency. Roles, permissions, bots, threads, events, onboarding. You do not need to be a developer, but you should not need a tutorial
• Politically literate, not partisan. You follow what is happening, you can talk about it with anyone, and you do not need people to agree with you
• Calm under heat. Political spaces get tense. You de-escalate with empathy and bring it back to the point
• Mission fit. You want citizens to have a real say in who represents them, on infrastructure citizens own
• Bonus. You have taken an early-stage Discord from quiet to active, moderated a political or civic community, or built culture anywhere online from scratch
