Everything is an angle now. Every call is a scam, every app is running a play on you, and when something actually goes wrong there’s nobody to call. Everyone you can reach has no power. Everyone with power is unreachable.

FiNC is citizens, candidates, and communities who all landed on the same thing: the system isn’t broken, it’s rigged, and it’s working exactly as it was built to work.

3 middlemen decide which candidates you ever hear about: big money, party gatekeepers, and media manipulation. They control the money, the access, and the visibility every candidate needs to win. So they decide who wins before anyone votes, and good people run for office and stay invisible.

Once you know it’s there, you see it everywhere. Each move looks like a one-off: a sudden outrage, a single bad vote, a new crisis to react to. But they’re the same 5 rigged patterns, repeating.

Spotting them is what the Digital Politics Lens is for. Most of what we want, we want together: safer neighborhoods, schools that work, a shot at getting ahead, a government that listens. Left and right is the argument you were handed. The deeper question that matters is which way your leader is facing: up toward the people who fund them, or down toward the people who elected them. 

Here’s why this can work when nothing else has. Every movement, third party, and reform group is pushing against the same status quo, and all of them are pushing alone. They were all trying to win. We’re assembling the thing they all stand under. Citizens say what they care about, candidates say who they are, and the 2 sides connect with nobody in between.

The coalition is the product. The DP Hub at hub.futureis.org is a tool that supports it, not the thing we’re selling. Both are early: the DP Hub is live and close to empty, and the coalition is small. That’s not the weak part of the pitch. Growing it is the job.

Our work is the human side: outreach, PR, social, and citizen buy-in. Not tech: that mostly exists already, spread across other civic groups. What’s missing is the coalition. We’re not marketing a website. We’re campaigning for a better way to choose leaders.

We’re also built closer to a cooperative than a traditional nonprofit. Team members here are partners and co-architects, not employees.

We can’t change the rules yet, so we’re changing the game.

To maintain our independence and avoid conflicts of interest, we are not accepting investors or financing that comes with strings attached. Instead, we are Crowd-Starting FiNC—building it together from the ground up.

We’re asking team members to contribute 15-20 hours per week during this phase, with compensation paid retroactively once we become fully operational.

This model only works if you see it as a short-term investment for long-term rewards. Everyone who joins is a partner, receiving an ownership stake in FiNC. Our structure is similar to a Nonprofit Cooperative, moving beyond the traditional “employee vs employer” dynamic into something more collaborative and forward-thinking.

This model filters for people who believe in the mission deeply enough to build alongside us. It’s not for everyone, and that’s okay.

Role Description:

Product Designer · No-Code (Softr & Airtable)

FiNC is looking for a Product Designer to own how the Digital Politics Hub looks and how people move through it.

Our product team already has the technical side covered. Our Product Manager runs structure, tasks, and sequencing. Our developer builds. What we do not have is someone whose whole job is deciding what good looks like, and then making it so.

The most important thing about this role

You would design in Softr, not for Softr.

This is not a role where you deliver mockups and hand them to someone else to build. You would work directly in Softr’s no-code builder: choosing blocks, setting layouts, adjusting spacing and type, restructuring navigation, and shipping the change yourself. Wireframe first if that is how you think, but the deliverable is the live page.

No traditional coding required.

What You’ll Own

Visual quality

• Make busy pages calm and readable through spacing, type, and hierarchy
• Hold the line on our brand palette and fonts so the Digital Politics Hub reads as 1 product instead of 12 separate pages
• Decide what “finished” looks like, because right now nobody owns that call

Navigation and structure

• Organize how pages relate so citizens can find what they came for
• Fewer dead ends, clearer labels, an obvious next step on every page
• Design the real paths: first visit, browse candidates, add your name, take an action

Accessibility

• We work directly with disability communities, so this is a gate, not a checklist
• Keyboard-only navigation end to end. Screen reader labels on every field. Real contrast
• WCAG 2.1 AA is our working benchmark

Build and iterate

• Connect Softr pages to Airtable views so lists, filters, and detail pages actually work
• Ship small improvements often instead of saving them up for a redesign
• Bonus if you are comfortable with light automations

How the Tech Team Works

Small: a Product Manager, a developer, and you. The team decides what we are building. You decide how it looks and how someone moves through it. You would work closely with our graphic designer and copywriters so the visuals and the language match.

Leading the team is a possibility, not a requirement. The seat above this one is open. Our Product Manager is running structure and sequencing well and has built a strong working rhythm with our developer, so nothing here is broken and nobody is waiting to be rescued. If you have led a small product team before and want to again, that is a great outcome and we would welcome it. If you would rather put your hours into the design work itself, that is equally fine. It is not what we are screening for.

The Honest Version of the Stack

The Digital Politics Hub today is a no-code prototype built on Softr and Airtable. It is a scaffold, not a foundation, and a proper rebuild comes later. That means real constraints: you work within what Softr’s blocks allow, and some things you would want to do are not possible yet. If that sounds frustrating rather than interesting, this is not the right seat.

You’re a Great Fit If You…

• Have 2 to 5+ years in UI, product, or web design, or a portfolio that shows the equivalent
• Have built real, working things in no-code tools: Softr, Webflow, Bubble, Glide, Framer. Softr and Airtable are a big plus
• Have a genuinely good eye. This role exists because we need taste we do not currently have
• Think in flows, not just single screens
• Can work with relational data: linked records, filters, views
• Ask good questions and take feedback well

Nice-to-Haves

• Accessibility experience, especially testing with real assistive tech
• Dashboards or directories built in Airtable, Softr, or similar
• Figma or Whimsical for quick wireframes, even rough ones
• Civic tech, community platforms, or mission-driven products
• Experience leading or mentoring a small product team. Useful here, but not required

We care less about credentials than about whether you can make something clear, calm, and usable.

A Separate Opening, In Case It Fits You Better

We also need help improving our main website, which runs on WordPress and Elementor. That is a different role for a different person, and we are not asking anyone to carry both. If that is closer to your skill set, say so in your application and we will point you at the right one.
